Welcome!!
Oh the Amaryllis....the flower.............
Did you know that you can have your Amaryllis flower till spring?
Here is one that I planted and is about 6 weeks...................
I made the cage out of dogwood branches...............
Soon a beautiful flower will evolve..........
A flower is born...................
Seen in this picture new shoots to the left of the plant........
These will become flowers as well................
When the first flower dries up....cut the stem at the bottom..........
These new shoots will grow tall ....................and produce yet another flower............
I have had two flowers so far and now........
here is a picture I took this morning ..........another new shoot has appeared......
Now is the time to fertilize........................Up till now all I did was water once a week......
I chose this fertilizer....find it easy to measure and it does the trick..........
Fertilize once a week till the spring comes and you will be amazed.........
Your Amaryllis will continue blooming..............
Once the frost is gone...plant your Amaryllis in the garden plastic pot and all.
The stem will die off as well as the flower...............The bulb will continue to grow...
Dig it out of the ground in September and shake off the dirt...Let the bulb dry off
then put in a cool dry spot in the basement for 5 weeks then bring it back out.......
Plant the bulb in potting soil ......fertilize ....... and by Christmas you will have beautiful flowers.
I hope you will give this a try........I hope your Amaryllis continues to thrive......like mine..
As always thanks for stopping by.
Linda

that is such a beautiful flower! It's nice to know how to take care of a live one like that. I'm too lazy though and just put out my fake one in December and then it goes back in storage in January. LOl!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that this can be done, but never tried it. Now I wish I had gotten an amaryllis for Christmas. I got paperwhites and I'm trying to see if they will come back next year. I'm saving your instructions for this Christmas. Thanks for the tip.
