While cruising the net I came upon these cute bunny weather vanes.
I have always had my sights on buying one but I could never find one.
Sooooo the next best thing is to make one.
this one is from the CRAFTY SISTERS
I found this sight here and went about following the instructions.
I went to the graphic fairy sight and copied this
rabbit graphic.
I set off to the
copier shop and had my graphic enlarged to
17 1/2" a little smaller than the Crafty Sisters.
Then I went to my wood supplier Mr. dh and asked for a piece of 1" pine.
I had the doweling from other projects .
I also had a finial that was left over from another project.
Now for the block of wood. Mr. dh to the rescue.
Is this what you need , he said. Perfect.
All that's left to complete my stand is another piece of wood
that would act as a base.
No need, Mr dh added a frame around the outside of the block of wood.
Perfect
Next is to stain, then let it dry. Don't be in a hurry.
Time to assemble. The finial still had a screw in it, so I screwed it to the block
of wood. Mr dh drilled a hole in the top for the 3/8 doweling to fit and then drilled
a hole in the bunny.
Glue the doweling to the bunny. Let dry.
Now for the white washing.
I diluted my paint by half with water then applied it all over.
I found that made it too light. So I added more paint to the mixture till I was pleased
with the result.
My own Bunny Weather Vane. Just in time for Easter.
Thanks to the Crafty Sisters and their tutorial.
Have a great day!
Linda

How cute! I saw the bunny at the Graphics Fairy a week or so ago and immediately thought of making a bunny weathervane. I've made a horse one and thought I'd do the same thing. I only got as far as copying out the bunny on my printer. You beat me to it... and I like the finial, I would never have thought of that.
ReplyDeleteEvery bit as fabulous as your inspiration piece. Such a welcoming touch for Spring. Thanks for sharing this on this week's BeColorful

ReplyDeleteYour bunny weather vane turned out great! I love how you painted and distressed it too. I thought of something else that would be cute if you ever want to change it's look. You could cover it in green sheet moss. I've seen those before and liked them as well.
