Burlap, Burlap Burlap......
Such a versatile fabric.
We use it in Sewing.... We use it in Gardening.... We use it in Rug Hooking....
Many .... Many..... Many uses...
So anyhow.... I received from a fellow blogger and friend a stencil.
Blogging buddies are so thoughtful. Jana from Transformations from the heart
had made this cute tea towel copy cat from Debiedoo's Copy Cat Party and I loved the saying.
Soooo that's where Burlap comes in.....
My creation a Burlap Kitchen Stocking.
So lets get started...
you will need a yard of burlap
a stocking pattern
fabric for lining
Lay your pattern on your burlap and cut out making sure you fold your fabric in half.
You want to have 2.
Next comes the stenciling. Position on your stocking where you want your sayings.
It's so easy... put a small amount of paint on your stencil brush , dap off excess and proceed by dapping
on your stencil.
While this is drying, take your fabric for the lining and fold in half.
I used flour sac tea towels. Very inexpensive. Lay your pattern on the fabric and cut out making sure
that you leave a 4" at the top. This is going to be your cuff.
Sew the two pieces together leaving a opening half way down the side(this is where you wll pull
the stocking through) leave the top open.
Then sew the two pieces of burlap together. Again leaving the top open. turn right side out.
Next you are going to insert the lining over the burlap stocking.
Sew around the top. see here.......
Now pull the burlap stocking through the opening in the side of the lining.
Now your stocking will look like this.
Sew up the seam. see here...
Now push your lining down into the burlap stocking. You are almost done...
Pull up the excess fabric of the lining to make your cuff.
Press. press, press.
Now to make a loop for hanging your cute stocking. I used jute twine .
You can use ribbon, make a loop from the lining... use your imagination....
Now how cute is this.
