Pie Bird

Pie Bird.... pie vent, pie chimney, pie funnel , pie whistle.....

is a hollow ceramic device, originated in Europe...used for venting a pie

You have heard that children's rhyme ...4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a
                                                           pie.....

While out touring not with the intention of antiquing I found .........

                                                        wait for it........

                                                  A Pie Bird........

We took off  a couple of weeks ago with the old vehicles touring
                                             Lakeshore dr.
From New Castle to Port Hope.....

Very Scenic..... took a few pictures......

As you can see the closer we made it to the Lake Ontario the skies
cleared making for a gorgeous day.....

**notice the house below the hill***

Then we happened upon a cute antique shop...

The first glass display I looked into
                                                                   There it was.....

                                                       A Black Pie Bird......

Has that ever happened to you....
you are just out and about not really looking for anything
in particular and there it stood......

So here is my Blackbird sitting high upon my  shelf

                                                                     Isn't he magnificint?

                                                                   Yes see the markings......

                                                                      ENGLAND

Hope you enjoyed this wee tour and my cute pie bird....

                                                                Thanks for stopping by!

  2. As soon as you said pie bird I know right then what you meant lol . My mum used to have a few of these pie birds and she used then quite a bit . That's were the rhyme song four and twenty black birds backed in a pie came from an old Brit baking ditty lol ! Yes both parents were very British with Brit traditions and ways I was raised ! I haven't seen one for years ! Lovely photos . Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
