Drop Cloth fitted slip!!

You have guessed it...

I have gone to the drop cloths  not to the birds!!!!

When you find something that you really like to work with , do you become

obsessive???

Yup that's me....

I made several years ago, long before blogland I found painters dropcloth and made a fitted

slip for our wing back chair.

Not knowing that this would become a very popular fabric.

How can you go wrong?   The size and definitely  the price is  right!!!

Yes , I have just completed a fitted slip for our loveseat in our Living Room.

I decided that the loveseat would be more fitted than the sofa so I cut out the pieces that I needed

to make the fit and added on a pleated skirt.

I also covered the seat cushions.  I left enough fabric in the back so that one day if I get the urge

I will add piping to the front of the seats.

So there you have it... The secrets out!!!  I'm a drop cloth junkie.....

So here are the couches before:

and after:

Now I must go make some new pillows for this loveseat....

Of course they will be made from drop cloth......

Now just putting this out there...  Our Living Room is very formal so by adding these slips

I need some advise on what to do with out coffee table to keep it from looking too formal?

Painting it is out of the question.

  2. Hi, love the look of your slip cover!!!! I think you should shabby chic your coffee table with a country white and light gray. It has a glass insert, right? Something cool on the glass like etching. Maybe corner accenting or large union jack! I posted chic white americana kitchen to Blissful White's Wednesday! Following your blog now. Follow me to at www.sewsweetvintage.com Cheers to posting here:)

  4. You did a fabulous job on the slip covers. I don't think I could do one. I love to use drop cloths though. I've made a table cloth and a runner, and have used for drape panels too.

Thanks so much for your visit and comment. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  6. Your dropcloths look great but I know I would never attempt anything like this. (I'm just not a sewer) You did a great job and they lightened up the room. I don't know what to suggest for your table other than painting it cream colour or replacing it.

  10. Linda, your sofa look sos pretty!!! I love the slipcover! You rock out loud!!!
Can you put a seagrass or sisal area rug under your coffee table? I think it would make the are look less formal without ruining your pretty table.

  11. Hi Linda, LOVE your slipcover and it looks fabulous on your sofa for the new upscale looks right now. I have a slipcover loveseat too and love it in our living room. What a talent you are.

As for the coffee table. Being a decorative artist, my first thought was to paint it off white, but since you said it out of the question. How about slip cover it too for a foot stool sort of look with soft padding or use a large crochet piece over it with some of the original showing through. Just some thoughts.
So enjoyed my visit for the Blissful Whites Wednesday.

  13. I would never think that was a dropcloth. It looks really good.

  14. Looks great Linda. I think RJ is on to a good idea. I would also think that perhaps how you decorate the table would change it up quite a bit. Think perhaps more of the vignette on the table?

  16. great idea! My livingroom slips are getting thin. Been wondering what to use as fabric, that is not too expensive. Now I just have to get motivated.....

  19. Don't think my sewing skills would be good enough to attempt dropcloth slipcovers. I sure like them though.

  20. I don't really have any sewing skills but I have a chair that I've been wanting to work on for months! Maybe I just need to take the plunge and hope that it comes like yours!

  21. You did a beautiful job on the slipcovers! I haven't done anything with drop cloths, YET! For the coffee table, I would make 2 (drop cloth) table runners to criss-cross, & maybe even add burlap ruffles to them.

  22. Linda, I'm so impressed with your creative eye. You discovered painter's drop cloths long before they became popular, and it turned out so well. I wish I could sew. I really need to learn, it would save so much money because I love slipcovers. As for your coffee table, if you don't want to paint it, you could tone down the formality with a basket of books or old urn. Items with lots of patina to contrast.

  23. What a great before and after! I have not taken the plunge yet, but it's on my project list.

  24. Your slips look very professional! Nice job. For your coffee table, since paint is not an option, you might take out the glass and have a plywood piece cut the shape of the glass, and paint that...distress it and clear coat it. OR get a really big tray, paint it white and place interesting items on it like books, candles, etc.

  26. Love the slipcovers, so well done! I just have a dropcloth over my blue couch and by just doing that it has lighted up the room. Well, since you won't paint the coffee table I'd try the idea that one comment above said: use dropcloth runners with a ruffle, I think that is a great idea!

  27. I made new slipcovers in the summer out of a heavy white duck. It was difficult going through 6 layers at some places. I think a drop cloth might have been a good idea. I would say , "maybe next time", but I think next time it will be a new sofa.
    Yours look beautiful

  28. You did a great job!!! Drop cloths are just the perfect fabric for slipcovers, and I love that ruffle!!

  29. Oh lordy, I don't think I have the guts to attempt a project of this magnitude. Your cusions are EXACTLY like ours, the two outer ones that wrap around the arm and then the squarish/rectangular middle cushion. Yours turned out SO great!... Donna
