Meet Alyssa the Alpaca
Over the Christmas Break some of my grands stayed overnight.......
The next day we bundled up and went to the Alpaca Farm........
In all my years I have never been up close to these beautiful animals......
Now I understand why we make these our pets............
Just look at those big eyes and long eyelashes..............
Their wool coat is so thick and soft.............
My hand reached in to pet her and she turn and looked at me and liked
my hair........Nana look out Alyssa is trying to eat your hair...........
The breeder just had to shoo her aside , but..... she kept coming back........
It's as it we bonded....or she just liked my curly hair...............
Ok to make a long story short..........
We went into the barns , saw the animals and then we went into the store.....
Oh such woven and beautiful garments made from the Alpaca wool............
My grands fell in love with these mittens............I guess.....they were so thick..... and warm....
Well at the hefty price of $50.00 a pair...........I wasn't about to spend............So I purchased
a ball of Alpaca wool and................
Did I mention the Alpaca yarn was $15.00....................................
So that is why the red and white mittens were created.......................
I had the cream wool and now the red silk wool from the alpaca and I made these mittens.
It took me 8 hours to knit the mitts.......haven't knitted in awhile..........
Then I proceeded to add the silk wool to the inside and out.............
Now this was all from memory..........but they turned out great !!..........
This took another 8 hours..........So if you add in the labour.............
I would say $50.00 is a great price to pay......
..
Don't you think..........you would love a pair...........I know I would.........
I guess you know what I will be making........ I have 11 pairs of mittens to make.............
Memories of this Christmas will last a lifetime........................
Thanks for stopping by and leaving all those lovely comments.
Have a great week.....You know what I will be doing......
Linda

Those mittens are adorable. Love alpacos. They have such sweet faces. They do like curly hair. One tried to eat my daughter's hair when she was little. Be careful, hah.
ReplyDeleteHow cute are those Alpacas and I love those mittens! I would say you are going to be busy knitting all those mittens!! Hope you have a wonderful day, Gail
ReplyDeleteThey are really sweet creatures aren't they. I love the mittens and how the red yarn looks like hearts all over them. They would be very warm! You have a lot of knitting to do too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mittens. What a great story and the mittens will last and keep the memories alive for your GBs.

ReplyDeleteWow! I had no idea how labor intensive making mittens would be. Of course, I don't knit, so what do I know? Those mittens are adorable! I love the red and white colorscheme. I don't think I've ever seen an alpaca up close in person either.
