Get spring early by forcing spring bulbs

                                           Welcome Back!!

Oh winter has hit us hard to the north and some to the south!

                      Snow, snow and more snow!

                              Frigid temperatures!

Well here is a bit of spring that everyone needs......

Why not bring the vibrant colour your longing for indoors.

Force some bulbs and lets enjoy their beauty!

                        I chose Hyacinths.

The best bulbs to force are hyacinths, daffodils, tulips...you get the picture.

When buying bulbs try to purchase them in the fall.
Keep them in a cool place till you are ready to force them.

Some keep them in the frig crisper for 4 to 6 weeks.

       Let's get started....

I have Hyacinth jars....

I fill the jar with water  to just above the lip and then in goes my bulb.

Place the bulbs in a warm room with indirect sunlight. Watch the roots appear and then they start to bloom.
Once they start to bloom move them  to  full sunlight.
They don't like a room that is too hot...

Time to move them into our living room.
This room faces the south and we get plenty of sun there.

I'm getting anxious to see what colour they are.
I went and threw out the packaging before looking to see what I had purchased.

So it will be a surprise.

I will be sure to post a picture once they bloom.

So have some fun and bring some spring into your home.

Here's my Hyacinth that I forced last year.

                                 Thanks for stopping by!
                                Love hearing from you!

                                            Linda

  1. That's such a good idea to bring some Spring inside this time of year. I think everyone is sick of hiding indoors from the cold.

  2. I love the perfume of a hyacinth. They're on the stands at all the corner stores right now - time to pick some up!
