Mondays.....

What do  you remember about Mondays.........

As a kid Mondays.......Wash day ..........laundry hanging on the line.......

I remember Mom hanging clothes out spring, summer, fall and winter......
I can still smell the freshness of the towels or the sounds of the sheets flapping in the wind....
Bringing in the clothes  half frozen and hanging them in the basement to finish drying or over the
vents in the kitchen ,,,,,,,,,when the furnace would come on the house filled with the aroma of
CHEER laundry detergent........

                                                          vintage

Funny over time it's the little things that we remember ..........

Laundry days have sure changed with the changes over the years........

I know they have changed here.......
No more clothes line.....
Laundry day is Saturday......clothes are tossed into the dryer.....

When we moved out to the country 20 some years ago... thought that I wanted a clothes
line.....So hubby honoured my wishes and built a line that spanned 30 feet....

Oh I was in my glory...hung out the clothes to dry....watched them flap in the wind....
Just like Mom.....till one day the line broke......and I had to wash all those clothes again....

Yes ...that was the last time I used a clothes line to dry clothes........

Funny over time it's the little things that we remember ..........

Well it's Monday ....wash day for some.....

Raining.....no wash day here........

                                                   Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Cloths lines are popular down here in southwestern Ontario especially with the Amish and Mennonites, I have one and love using it , I have the cloths line that is like a large upside down umbrella shape
and it carousels if I want it to in the wind and when not in use it folds up with the ease , the base is cemented into the ground and the rest can be removed and stored over the winter months . When I was a kid on the farm Sundays were laundry days and mum always used the cloths line as we didn't have a dryer till we sold the farm and moved to town and even then mum didn't always use the dryer lol . Yes to rainy today for laundry on the line . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

  2. My neighbors would disown me if I started hanging my clothes to dry on a clothesline! LOL! I could easily see that though in the country. I live in a subdivision with houses close by. We have to get approval for anything we do to the outside of our home if it is different (like a new fence or new house color). I don't think I would get permission for a clothes line. Maybe in a private back yard (which ours is not).

  3. Hi linda....
I always do laundry on Monday!
I remember the towels were not very soft, when they were line dried!
    Did that....not anymore!
Have a line at the cottage....use it to air things out, and dry our shower and swim towels....
    Enjoy your week...
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  4. I love my clothesline. There are not a lot of us that use one in my neighbourhood but I LOVE it and use it all the time. I cannot understand why some areas ban them. Certainly keeps my electricity bill way down.

  5. I had a clothesline when I first moved to this house but found a certain kind of bug we have left brown stains on the clothes. That was the end of that. I do have fond memories of my mom using a clothesline and how funny we thought the frozen shirts and pants looked when she brought them in from the winter cold.

  6. I grew up mostly in apartments, so there was no clothesline in my childhood memories. But I do remember as a young mom hanging the clothes on the line. I also remember running to take the clothes off as a thunderstorm hit and soaked everything. More than once.
Mondays are still laundry day around here though
