Thrifty Finds and a Tutorial

Now how could I pass these up.

A braided wool Capel rug and a glass lamp with a horrible shade.

My cost..... $5.00. At a Barn Sale....

Happy Dance!!

There are  other lamp choices out there.

But this glass one had potential.

The glass lamps shade looked like this.

I could go shopping for a shade or do the next best thing.... Are you with me.

                       A BURLAP SHADE TUTORIAL
 What you will need:

scissors,
glue gun
clips
measuring tape/ruler
fabric( I used burlap)

Now lets get started....

First I took apart this shade. Piece by piece.

Then I chose this burlap fabric from my stash. I love this one that I purchased a JoAnnes.
I used the material from the lamp for my template.

Draw around the fabric with a sharpie.

Make sure you also measure the circumference of your shade. I added a few inches to the width just to

make sure I had enough fabric.

Then I cut out my pattern.

Next I used the piping that goes around the top and bottom of the shade.

Used this as my guide to make the piping.

Cut my fabric 2" by the length of the piping. Turned in the ends and then gave it a good pressing.

I keep my spray bottle filled with water to spray on the burlap. Holds it much better.

Ok, now you are ready to assemble your shade.

Hot glue all around your edges as you are rolling on the fabric to the shade.

Then this is where your clips come in. Clip the edges
Now this became a little tricky. See the gap.  Measure 2x cut once....

That's ok. Just cut out another piece of fabric mine was 2" by the length from top to bottom and add on an inch.

Fold over your edges and give it a good press. Then you are ready to glue this over the gap. Now it looks

finished.

Not quite..

Now we add the piping to the top and bottom using the same technique gluing to the shade and using our

clips to secure.

Once all the glue has dried you are ready to place shade on lamp.

Here is how mine turned out.

A small bird in a nest with its eggs. A spring look sitting on a garden table.

Or how about a fall look.

What about Christmas... Coloured balls, pine cones...ideas are endless.

Thanks for coming by . Be sure to leave me a comment.
